The 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 is greatly improved compared with its predecessors. There are now coil springs in the rear and this has improved the ride of the vehicle significantly. The quietness in its cabin approaches that of luxury vehicles. The acceleration from the 5.7 liter eight cylinder engine is impressive. The crew cab has an extremely large rear seat. It has a powerful hemi engine, that gets average fuel economy for its class.
Of course, like most pickups, it comes with a variety of options. You can choose a regular cab, extended cab, or crew cab and choose between a 3.6 liter V6 or a 4.7 liter V8, or the 390 HP 5.7 liter V8. It is also available with a 6 speed the 8 speed automatic transmission.
The 2013 Dodge Ram has a controlled and steady ride with few sideways jitters on bumpy surfaces. The cabin is quiet with good noise suppression. The steering is responsive but provides little feedback. There is little body lean when cornering. The turning radius is almost fifty feet which can make parking difficult.
The 5.7 liter, 390 HP V8 provides rapid acceleration and gets fourteen miles per gallon overall. Its 6 speed automatic tranny shifts smoothly up and down. This powerful vehicle was able to pull a 6400 pound trailer to 60 miles per hour in 15.5 seconds, which is an excellent performance. It also has impressive braking capability.
Inside its cabin the fit and finish is decent, but not great. There are some flaws in trim pieces and also rough edges. There is a very high step up to get into the vehicle, consequently the optional running boards are almost a necessity. The driver’s seat is high and spacious. It has a tilting steering wheel but it does not telescope. Even though this vehicle has large windows, the rear view is not stellar, but an optional rear view camera is helpful.
Seat cushions that are rather long are a good fit for taller drivers, but not so comfortable for shorter individuals. The bench in the rear can easily fit 3 people and it folds up for more storage space. Controls are fairly easy to comprehend but they can give off glare at times which can cut down on their visibility. There is not a defroster for the back window of the cab, which is a drawback in cold weather conditions. There is generous cabin storage in the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500, this is inclusive of 2 in-floor compartments that are hidden. It has a large bed and you can purchase optional weatherproofing. Lighted boxes, called “Ram Boxes” are on the sides of the truck in the rear for additional locked storage.
All in all the 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 is a very capable pickup. It has an excellent ride and if you get the 5.7 liter hemi engine, it is extremely powerful. If you need a vehicle with impressive towing capacity, you will not be disappointed with the Ram 1500, particularly if you get the 5.7 liter engine.
