After much anticipation the introduction of the 2014 Ferrari Enzo happened at the Geneva Motor Show. The car has been named LaFerrari, a name some thought was silly, but as the president of Ferrari, Luca di Montezemolo said”. . . LaFerrari is the finest expression of our engineering and design know-how…”
The new model LaFerrari sports Ferrari’s patented powertrain dubbed as HY-KERS. It has a 6.3Liter, V-12 engine which enables 62 miles per hour to be achieved in less than three seconds while 124 mph happens in less than seven seconds. The top speed is nearly 217 mph. There is an electric motor included so the car can be deemed environmentally green, and it does offer an impressively small footprint which qualifies it as a hybrid.
The batteries are mounted in the chassis and weigh an incredibly lightweight 133 pounds. They are recharged by the regenerative braking when slowing down, and the excess torque provided by the engine when cornering.
Only 499 models of the super car are slated to be built, a report that will have car moguls standing in line to eagerly snap up the wonder car of the year at a price tag of around $1.6 million. The sleek and forward looking design of the hybrid, yet touted as the fasted car that Ferrari has ever made, belies its complexity and ingenious design.
The chassis is constructed is made out of several composites such as Kevlar and carbon fiber. The passenger and driver seats are part of this arrangement and built into the tub of the composite. When one needs to adjust your position to drive, the pedals and steering wheel move closer to you, instead of you moving closer to them.
The design is a molded thrust of future raw power and speed with an aerodynamic guide vane on the rear spoiler to keep the car on the road instead of taking off. The car is classed as a sports car with a body style of a 2 door berlinetta, rear mid-engine, rear wheel drive with a 7 speed dual clutch automated manual.
The 2014 Ferrari Enzo, or actually named LaFerrari, looks like it is moving when standing still, and when it is moving it appears to be super-fast. It sits low to the ground and holds its position on the track very tightly. There is not a wiggle as the car of the future smoothly corners like it was bred to do and straightens out without tilting or veering in any way at top speed. The car is a dream comes true in a world of shattered dreams, where desired results have escaped from thought, let alone reality.
There is no doubt that the result of the release of this car, the 2014 Ferrari Enzo; alas the LaFerrari was not a disappointment. All the anticipation, the holding of breathe seems worth it to feast one’s eyes on the design, to hear the timed roar of the engine and to see it streak around the track beating the track record of the fastest previous Ferrari, Mecca has come to us.
