The upcoming iPhone 7 could well be Apple’s biggest and most desperate smartphone release to date. Despite the success of its predecessor, the iPhone 6 and 6 plus, the interim release of iPhone SE didn’t bring Apple expected results. So far, many rumor mills have been leaking and information on specifications, dimension and other aspects of the phone. Here, we will discuss some confirmed and unconfirmed but intriguing info on iPhone 7.
As with any big release such as Samsungs and LGs, Apple knows how to tease their fans and keep them interested. They keep releasing bits and pieces of information from time to time to incline that interest. Time and again, it has been seen that smartphone makers do this on purpose as they mix true information with rumors. Upon release, some rumors turn out to be true while others remain just rumors. There is little doubt that smartphone enthusiasts are impatiently anticipating the release of this phone. Let’s start with some of the biggest rumors on this phone:
- A leaked picture shows the phone having a protruding camera housed within a pill shaped enclosure. If true, it is different from previous cameras as they featured single lens and were housed in circular housings. Dual lens camera will allow users to take near SLR grade photos along with 3d images. It’ll also allow better images in low or zero light conditions.
- The phone will be housed within a complete waterproof casing which has been a rallying cry by iPhone fans for some time now. Apple is supposedly working on a new compound material for the casing and is confident that the new casing will at least give the phone will give it higher tolerance when fell in water. Another rumor suggests that the new material will remove the need of dual plastic strips featured in current generation of iPhone phones. This is radical stuff and if true, it could not be metal at all, rather some other material that allows radio waves to pass through. If these rumors hold any weight, the iPhone 7 will be the first iPhone to feature waterproof casing. Users who use their phones while swimming or inside the washroom should be jubilant.
The phone will almost certainly arrive with the most advanced version of iOS system, the iOS 10. The upgraded software will accompany updated hardware and may well contain a dual or quad core processor made by Samsung or some other chip maker. Another rumor suggests that Apple may not use the iOS 10 for now and will settle for the recently launched low power version of iOS 9 for the iPhone 7. The rumor also suggests that the iOS 10 will be formed on the basis of iOS 9 and may well be a minor update of the previous version.
The new chip will continue Apple’s tradition of incremental upgrades to its hardware with more processing power and better power efficiency. The phone is likely to feature a newly developed OLED display. Rumor has it that Apple was in discussion with Samsung and LG for the said display unit. The new display will churn out very high contrast ratio and excellent sunlight visibility. If true, this display will feature better color reproduction for apps such as games, videos and photos. The iPhone 7Plus, the bigger version of the phone will also feature a whopping 256 gigabytes of onboard storage. Other possible features include sapphire protection unit, iSight camera, wireless charging, button-less design, dust and waterproof design and absence of a 3.5mm jack.
Judging from past trends, the newer phone will fall in the expensive phone category which is a norm for almost all Apple phones so far. Early estimates put the price of 16 gigabyte model at $570-600. Models that feature 64 and 128 gigabyte of onboard storage may well cost around $650-700 respectively.
Though there is no word on the battery capacity of the phone so far, it is likely that the new phone will house between 2500- 2800 mAh battery with excellent battery saving modes through software. The new phone is likely to be released by September 2017 in the earliest.
